About Failosophy

When things don’t go to plan, there is much we can learn. These situations force us to adapt, find new paths, and build resilience. By reflecting on and sharing our experiences, we help others feel less alone in their struggles and show that personal and professional growth often comes from what we do when faced with unexpected outcomes. Learning from setbacks leads to a more grounded view of what it takes to succeed. This is how we stay rooted in reality in the pursuit of success.

Failosophy is built on the belief that every setback has something valuable to teach us. It promotes a philosophy of understanding and embracing these obstacles as a natural and essential part of growth. The Failosophy podcast explores what we can learn from our setbacks in both work and business and how these experiences can become our best teacher and guide for navigating an increasingly complex and competitive world.

And let’s be honest, without the occasional mishap, we’d have far fewer entertaining stories to share over coffee or during awkward elevator rides. Embracing a “failosophy” mindset not only helps us grow but also adds a sprinkle of humour to our journey.

Failosophy Origins

I’m Chris, a lifelong ideas person, perhaps a byproduct of being an only child with a vivid imagination. Since my late teens, I’ve focused that imagination on business, specifically entrepreneurship. Over the years, I’ve worked on more than 40 business ideas alongside my career. Many were novel, some ahead of their time, and a few attracted customers and co-founders. Some even generated a profit. Yet, in my view, none fully realised their potential.

I saw many of these as wasted opportunities and wanted to understand why things didn’t work out for me. I believed the best way to do this was to learn from others. That’s why I created the Failosophy Podcast, both to uncover the lessons hidden in failure and to help others navigate their own journeys by sharing these insights.

Fear of Failure

Failosophy is about truly understanding what failure is and means, and using this understanding to demystify and reduce the fear of failure. The Failure Formula and the Failure Framework are part of my ongoing contribution to challenge conventional ideas and uncover its true nature. The Failure Formula breaks down why things might not work out by examining ambition, energy, expectations, and adaptability—helping us make sense of failure. The Failure Framework takes this further, providing a structured approach for dealing with setbacks: planning for challenges, recognising early warning signs, managing problems when they arise, and reflecting on lessons learned. Our journey is all about uncovering what failure teaches us, turning it into a valuable tool for growth and progress

Failosophy Formula

I developed the Failosophy Formula to break failure into manageable parts: ambition, energy, expectations, adaptability, and a key modifier, emotion, to better understand why failure occurs and what we can do to reduce the risk and impact of failure. The formula will help draw out key insights from our discussions, making it easier to prepare for setbacks, spot issues early on, and adapt when things don’t go as planned. While it may appear simple on the surface, there’s a lot of depth behind it, offering insights that will help us set realistic goals, manage expectations, and just maybe turn failure into a valuable learning tool for growth and improvement.

As a guest, we'll explore:

  • What drove you (Ambition and Energy)

  • How expectations influenced events

  • How you adapted to challenges

  • The emotional side of the experience

Failosophy Aims for Listeners
